Not even a church is safe from the march of the Monster Boxes. Toluca Lake Trinity Church, later Victory Baptist Church, 3440 W. Alameda in Burbank is no more.
Monsters Ate LA
A compilation of hideous modern architecture destroying Los Angeles.
The Monsterbox that Ate Bloomfield
These two fine examples of Studio City homes once stood on Bloomfield just west of Lankershim.
Then the Monster Box came.
Figueroa Terrace where 1914 homes meet Monster Boxes
1914 homes on Figueroa Terrace, east of Sunset, north of the 110, south of Dodger Stadium. Much of Chavez Ravine was already destroyed for the Elysian Park Heights plan of the 1940s and 50s, and then the baseball stadium that opened in 1962. Monsters will eventually eat the rest of it. Hats off to the survivors. For a regular person's house to survive 100+ years in Los Angeles, that's an amazing tale.
Some nearby survivors on Stadium Way between the 110 and Dodger Stadium:
Tujunga Avenue north of Moorpark in Studio City: Monsters and a Survivor
In the Valley, in Studio City on Tujunga south from near the 101 to Moorpark, Monster Boxes have obliterated typical mid-century single family homes.
One LOVELY multi-unit survivor hangs in there.
Some GOOD NEWS!
N Mansfield at Fountain
This is not a home.
This is a collection of vertical boxes stuck together.
This "style" has spread all over the city. Some people tell me it's inspired (as if it were "inspirational"!) by a video game. It's ugly. It's generic. It has no warmth.
It's just vertical boxes stuck together!

Western at Fountain
Holy Transfiguration Russian Orthodox Cathedral on 5432 Fernwood had its beginnings in the 1930s. It looks out of place in Los Angeles, but it's very beautiful.
Gas stations make sense by the freeway.
This other monster box typifies the growing ugliness as Los Angeles morphs into a smaller Communist China.
